A crown (or cap as they are sometimes referred as) can be used to replace the top part of a tooth that has become damaged, or weakened. A crown fits over an existing tooth, provided that the root is still relatively strong, protecting it from further damage and or decay. They can be used to cover discoloured, damaged or injured teeth. If you have an old crown, that you are no longer happy with, it may be possible to replace this.
Crowns can be made out of porcelain, gold or other materials. These are made by one of our dental laboratories and fitted by the dentist to ensure a snug fit. These can often take a couple visits before the final fitting.
A dental bridge is a permanent way to fill a gap where teeth may be missing in the mouth. It contains one or more false teeth, and unlike a denture, is permanently held in the mouth by the teeth next to it. Not all patients are suitable to have a bridge, this is something that can be discussed with your dentist.
